king of your castle

if you’ve got the january blues on this bleak monday then make sure you stop by this is your kingdom, a new website i’ve recently discovered that is on a quest to bring local back by seeking out and sharing local folks’ most favourite things to see and do in your county. it’s guaranteed to put a spring back in your step, and help you plan your next local outing to one of the little gems it recommends.

i’ve discovered some great little places on here that i simply must make time to visit over the coming weeks. megan’s deli and restaurant on the new kings road looks like a fabulous place to stop for a early morning breakfast or post-work meal; apparently when you step inside megan’s “the waitresses are always smiling and the place has a lovely homely feel… continue down the stairs and out through the doors and you’ll find yourself in a private walled garden with flowers everywhere – it’s like stumbling into the secret garden” – wow, i work just up the road from this oasis and i never even knew it existed. ditto, the treasure trove of trinkets that is northcote road antiques market. often referred to as northcote’s ‘best kept secret’, this lovely local gem is home to over thirty independent dealers representing every era of the late nineteenth right through to the twentieth century.

currently focused on the southern counties, including london, hampshire and cornwall, this is your kingdom is all about celebrating the uk, and providing you with insider information that will allow you to make the most of your county and give something back. the core focus is on celebrating, supporting and raising awareness of local people, local businesses and local produce, and they believe that this way the money you spend will be reinvested in your local community, thus making it an even nicer place to live and breathe.

consider yourself a true localite? help spread the local love by sending them details of your favourite local places to eat, drink, walk, think, see, smell, potter, snuggle or shop.
