a recurrent trend from maison et objet and the stockholm furniture fair was that of the cocooned workspace. these multifuctional pieces of furniture behave like a self-contained room, offering a perfect acoustic cocoon, a strong sense of intimacy and security, and a cosy place to have a personal conversation or study in peace.

as working environments become more flexible these workhubs will help provide a space where people can easily come together and share information, as well as providing temporary office spaces for freelancers and workers on the go. the pod chair from devorm and the 001 earchairs from prooff both provide private space for telephone calls in a busy office, and can be pulled together to create a small enclosed meeting area.

we got to test out the alcove highback sofa first hand at vitra’s chelsea showroom in new york during blogtour, and then spotted them in the quiet zone in virgin atlantic’s lounge at jfk on our way home.
