i fell in love with imogen heath’s beautiful cushion designs at clerkenwell design week, so i was delighted when these fabulous new images of the range popped up in my inbox today; i just adore all the bright colours and the contrasting mix of geometric and organic patterns which feel so vibrant and full of life!
imogen set up her own design studio in june 2011, and her colourful and elegant work has already caught the eye of heal’s, who recently commissioned her to design an exclusive range of cushions for their s/s 2012 collection. “my design process is all about capturing and retaining the same feeling of excitement and joy that comes to me when I have an idea for a pattern,” says imogen, “and i hope that by successfully taking these qualities through to the finished piece i can somehow bring that same delight into people’s surroundings.”
my favourite design is allegro, which draws inspiration from imogen’s love of geometric composition within colour in weave, as well as contemporary art which makes strong and graphic statements. i am also drawn to the tonal washes of colour in the viaduct print, inspired by the curved arches of brighton’s viaduct in imogen’s hometown.
