Fabric of my Life.

any way, shape or form

joseph hartley

i first spotted joseph hartley‘s makery collection at mint during last year’s design festival and experienced instant lust, so i was delighted to spot today that the range is now on sale at fao shop.

handmade from the simplest materials using simple techniques, the objects are pure and honest with virtually no decoration or surface treatment. designed to be hard wearing, playful, used often, and enjoyed a lot, they were inspired by the making and eating of bread in the home, particularly the simplicity of sourdough bread which uses just 3 ingredients. using the 3 materials of cherry wood, clay and rubber, joseph created the makery range; i’m very taken with the thrown stoneware bottle with cork lid held in place with a clothes peg, along with the stoneware flour shaker whose wooden lid is secured by a utilitarian rubber band.

sometimes the most beautiful things are the simplest, oui?
