fabulous food fusion

one new change market

this weekend saw the launch of the one new change food market; a new weekly gourmet food market in london which was opened by the lovely food writer & tv personality gizzi erskine.

serving up delicious fresh produce from across the globe – with a strong bias towards london and uk artisans, bakers and condiment makers (honey from hackney anyone?) – the market stalls lined the walkways of the shopping centre, tempting weekend shoppers with their unique and flavorful concoctions. there was authentic mexican cheese made in peckham, maida vale-based chocolatiers inspired by the flavours of provence, english jams blended with hot scotch bonnet chillies for a spicy chutney fusion alongside tangy green tomato pickle, plus crispy wholegrain crackers in an array of flavours to sample.

my eyes (and stomach!) were drawn by the global fusion vegan creole bakery and their truly delicious cakes; from caribbean influenced banana and mango offerings to delectable chocolate and mud pie options, all free from dairy. i also found myself salivating over the cookie heaven that is galeta, with their piles of chewy hazelnut, toffee and pecan cookies, as well as flaky portuguese custards and orange madeira cake.

but one of my favourite stands had to be cutter and squidge, who offer their own unique take on the current macaron trend, with crumbly homemade biscuits sandwiched with a light buttercream, jam or caramel. their unique fusion of flavours really intrigued me, and the fragrant combinations of lychee & rose and exotic pineapple with coconut & pineapple chilli jam tantalised my tastebuds – if only wish i could have tasted them all!

to celebrate diverse flavours of london’s market scene, john shepherd from shepherd’s markets has handpicked the crème de la crème of one new change’s gourmet offerings to create this exclusive hamper, worth £70, to give away to one lucky foml reader.
