A dreamlike state

mybed universe

last friday i headed off on a whistle-stop trip to munich to attend the unveiling of the winning design in the sofitel mybed™ universe competition, in association with wallpaper* magazine.

the entrants to the design contest had been tasked with creating a fantastical bedroom installation with sofitel mybed™ products at the core of the design, and the winning design by école supérieure des arts et techniques graduate clémentine pautrot was subsequently constructed and installed in the lobby of the sofitel munich bayerpost hotel for last friday’s cocktail party. working with the notion of sleep as a magical experience,  pautrot’s installation captures that sublime and mysterious phase between falling asleep and dreaming, and was chosen for it’s striking creativity and imaginative projection of the sofitel mybed™ product.

it was a privilege to be invited to attend the event along with fellow bloggers sam, hassen, anna, sophie and ada, and have the opportunity to meet clémentine pautrot to hear all about her design inspirations for the competition. her design, sleep space, considers sleep a magical daily experience representing the gateway to unconsciousness – the link between reality and sleep, with an imposing ladder at the head of the bed representing the upward journey into the delirious dream state.

after the party wound down and my fellow bloggers and i indulged in a steak dinner at the hotel brasserie, i was excited to head back to my room and climb into my giant marshmallow of a mybed™. i’ve written before about my experience of sofitel’s exclusive bedding concept, and i really do stand by the assertion that they are the comfiest hotel beds around – so much so that i declined an invitation to check out the munich bar scene in favour of heading straight into a delirious and uninterrupted dream state myself (well, i had gotten up at 3.45am that morning!).

and if the luxury of a fabulous night’s slumber wasn’t enough, i was also lucky enough to be gifted a beautiful sofitel travel set, featuring a a folding mybed™ rectangular travel pillow and a mybed™ neck pillow by dumas presented in a specially designed italian leather travel bag – talk about luxury! i can’t wait to try these out on my next long haul flight, i don’t think i could possibly have a bad night’s sleep with these comfy pillows on which to recline.

well rested and cocooned within my fluffy paradise the following morning i reluctantly emerged to answer the door to room service, bearing all manner of scrumptious breakfast treats: fresh croissants, pastries, natural yoghurt and a colourful fruit salad, were followed by french crepes with lashings of maple syrup – trust me, sofitel certainly know the way to a girls’ heart!

whilst happily munching on my morning feast i took the opportunity to peruse my wallpaper* city app and formulate a very rough plan for the day, before stepping out into the bavarian sunshine to explore…
