Fabric of my Life.

as someone who loves pizza but doesn’t eat dairy, it is an absolute godsend to come across local pizza delivery company that offer vegan cheese as an alternate option across their full pizza selection!

i’d not come across firezza before, but when they got in touch a few weeks ago asking me to review their menu i squealed with delight when i clicked through to their website and spotted they offered violife for pizza on any of their pizzas, meaning i didn’t have to compromise on my favorite (meaty) pizza topping combos – usually i have to have a fully vegan pizza in order to cut out the dairy.

opened in 2001, firezza deliver wood-fired, authentic neapolitan pizza by the 12″ pie or by the half metre across london, all prepared with quality, fresh ingredients. each pizza is cooked at 400 degrees in just 3 minutes, hence the name firezza (fire + pizza).

when our review feast arrived we were met with two ginormous half-metre pizzas, each piled high with fresh toppings and the gooey glory of perfectly melted vegan cheese, which perfectly paired with the slightly charred yet still chewy crust. our meaty pizza (firezza) was a satisfyingly tasty mix of prosciutto cotto ham, premium pepperoni, roasted aubergines, courgettes, sweet peppers, tomato sauce and vegan cheese, while our other pizza (carciofi) was a vegetarian delight topped with grilled artichoke hearts, roasted red peppers, firezza’s special tomato sauce and wild porcini mushrooms.

the vegan cheese was perhaps the best i’ve tasted on a delivery pizza and even my (dairy eating) friends agreed it was delicious. the slightly smoky taste worked particularly well on the meaty pizza and tasted much more creamy – a little like dairylea(!) – on the vegetarian pizza… and i mean that in a good way!

accompanying our pizzas we also wolfed down a portion of hot chicken wings with roquito pepper chilli dip, gourmet marinated olives and potato wedges accompanied by a very tasty homemade garlic mayo dip. if that’s not your idea of a perfect friday night in, i don’t know what is. add into the mix the fact the football was on the telly and my team won, that was just the icing on the cake…

except there was even more delight to follow, in the form of a tub of oddono’s gelati mango and coconut sorbet. the award-winning artisan italian ice-cream is handmade daily using the finest ingredients and the mango coconut sorbet was rich and creamy, tempered with the tangy sweetness of the mango swirl. even after gorging ourselves on all that pizza we managed to find space for a few spoonfuls of this decadent treat!

we couldn’t possibly manage to eat both the pizzas in their entirety in one sitting but even the following day – like any truly great pizza – the slices still tasted fresh and flavourful and perhaps (dare i say it?) even better than the night before… it’s safe to say we’ll certainly be ordering from firezza again!
