that time of year again!

I’ve written before about the pressures of the holiday season to find the perfect gift for all the important – and sometimes not so important – people in our life, and often end up spending money we can’t really spare but, ’tis the season and all that.

My close friends and I long ago gave up the tradition of gift giving this time of year, and instead give the gift of time spent together – usually shared over a festive meal – catching up on all the goings-on from the past year since we all live in different corners of the country now and rarely have the chance to all be in the same room at the same time. That’s the true meaning of christmas, in my opinion: being able to spend time being merry with those you love. Far more valuable than any physical gift you could give, don’t you agree?

But of course, gift giving has it’s merits too – especially when you’ve taken the time to truly consider the recipient and the things they would appreciate receiving. Gifts that encourage them to spend time nurturing themselves – whether it be their physical wellbeing, their creative or emotional skills – as well as indulgent gifts like luxury candles or artisan chocolate, that they would never normally treat themselves too.

That last notion is crucial too: treating yourself. At a time where so much emphasis is spent on showing your loved ones you care, its important to remember to send a little bit of that care your way too.

I’ve split this year’s gift guides into three sections – with a heavy emphasis on independent businesses and local makers – and plenty of inspiration not just for the stylish loved ones in your life, but yourself also – happy holidays!
